Join Intuit on the second to last Wednesday of the month for One Night Stand, a free series of art talks led by Intuit staff or an outsider art scholar. This month, museum educator Onyx Montes will engage attendees in a conversation about self-taught artist Wesley Willis and his piece The Dan Ryan Expressway (1986).

Meet Onyx Montes
Onyx Montes is an arts educator, cultural worker and salary transparency advocate. Onyx moved by herself to the United States from Mexico at the age of 17. She studied art history at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, and is the first person in her family to graduate from college. Onyx is finishing her degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in the Museum and Exhibition Studies master’s program and is part of the inaugural Arts & Culture Leaders of Color Fellowship by Americans for the Arts. Onyx worked as a museum educator at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago before joining the Hyde Park Art Center as the social media manager. Two projects she is proud of are the art history workshops she taught for incarcerated women in Mexico and the publication Anthology: Artists and their Snacks, which she edited in collaboration with the organization United States Artists. She is an avid reader and a solo traveler with 19 countries and counting under her belt.
