For more than two decades, Intuit has provided award-winning professional development to educators through its Teacher Fellowship Program (TFP). Throughout the school year, TFP supports a cohort of teachers to create an interdisciplinary lesson plan inspired by outsider artists. By introducing outsider art into their classrooms, Teacher Fellows give their students an opportunity to translate their unique personal visions in new, non-traditional ways.


  • TFP is comprised of five Saturday training sessions (September-January) which are designed to inform and inspire ideas for a final lesson plan.

  • Training sessions include: academic lectures, artist-led workshops, tours of outsider art collections, work time and field trips to museums.

  • Through these sessions, Teacher Fellows are given the experiences, resources and time to ideate the cross-curricular lesson plans they will implement during Spring.

  • During lesson plan implementation (February-April), all participating classrooms will visit Intuit for a field trip as well as receive a classroom visit from Intuit education staff.

  • The program culminates in an exhibition of selected student artwork on view at the museum (May-June). The opening reception is a celebration with family members, friends and school staff.


  • Fully-active and engaged Teacher Fellows earn 30 CPDUs and a stipend of $500 per teacher (for classroom supplies, field trip transportation or other related resources) as well as waived admission for a staff-guided field trip to Intuit for their participating classroom.

  • Teacher Fellows receive written and verbal feedback from Intuit education staff and the TFP cohort on their lesson plan proposal, curriculum presentation and classroom implementation.

  • Students will have the opportunity to exhibit their artwork publicly in a professional museum setting.

  • Teacher Fellows have access to Intuit’s Robert A. Roth Study Center, which is full of rare and interesting books to help generate lesson ideas.

  • Each year’s cohort will be introduced to new teaching ideas, methodologies and content by art educators.


  • The Teacher Fellowship Program is open to Chicago Public School (CPS) teachers from all disciplines.

  • Teachers must apply in teams of two from the same school. One participating teacher from each pair must be in the arts.

  • Special consideration will be given to applicant schools with “Developing” and “Emerging” Creative Schools Certification.

  • Priority will be given to following applicant schools:

    • Schools which have never participated in the program

    • High schools

    • Schools located on the far west and south sides


  • September 14, 2019, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

  • October 19, 2019, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

  • November 9, 2019, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

  • December 14, 2019 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

  • January 25, 2020 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
