Robert A. Roth Study Center

Intuit's Robert A. Roth Study Center is a non-circulating collection with a primary focus in the fields of outsider and contemporary self-taught art. Our holdings contain an extensive and growing library of books, catalogs, periodicals, slides, photographs, videotapes, and archive materials.

As a public resource that complements our educational mission, Intuit’s study center is open to students and scholars interested in pursuing further research of intuitive, self-taught, and outsider art and artists.

If you would like to view a documentary, research a given subject or artist, or wish to browse our periodicals and books, please schedule an appointment!

Access to the collections is dependent on staff availability. To schedule an appointment, please view the “application for access” and call 312-243-9088 or email studycenter@art.org with your request.

Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art promotes public awareness, understanding, and appreciation of intuitive and outsider art through education,
exhibition, collecting and publishing.  Intuit defines ‘intuitive and outsider art’ as the work of artists who demonstrate little influence from the mainstream art world,
and who instead are motivated by their unique personal vision. This definition includes art brut, non-traditional folk art, self-taught art, and visionary art.
