Operations Internship

Reports to: Operations Manager
Pay Category: Unpaid
Other compensation: Occasional food and travel
Required Hours: 15-20 hours per week (2-3 days per week)

Overview of responsibilities:


  • Assist with administrative tasks including but not limited to billing, running reports, calendar scheduling, updating spreadsheets/documents, and creating/distributing surveys
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings; provide agenda/notetaking support
  • Provide communication support pertaining to Intuit’s general email inbox
  • Assist with general office management (supplies, equipment, procedures)
  • Provide general administrative support to the Operations Manager and other staff members
  • Interact with staff, board members, volunteers, interns, curators, artists, lenders, vendors, museum visitors, and other constituents through written and verbal communication on a regular basis


  • Provide set-up, take-down, and general logistical support at Intuit events
  • Assist in event promotion, planning, preparation, and evaluation


  • Assist with the operations of the Intuit Store, including budgeting, purchasing, merchandising, marketing, inventory control, and online sales fulfillment
  • Provide friendly customer service to all Intuit Store shoppers
  • Place orders for store merchandise
  • Conduct research pertaining to new products to sell in the Intuit Store
  • Correspond with consignment vendors and manage intake and return of consignment items
  • Process Intuit Store sales through Quickbooks Point of Sale (POS) system
  • Prepare weekly sales reports; reconcile store register
  • Work with marketing department to develop and implement retail promotions
  • Strategize ways in which to increase and diversify retail sales
  • Assist with special retail projects as assigned

Visitor Services

  • Provide excellent service to all visitors
  • Inform guests of current/future exhibitions, events, and programs
  • Communicate Intuit’s mission to guests, members, potential donors, and other constituents
  • Field telephone inquiries and forward calls to appropriate staff members when necessary
  • Maintain visitor log and analyze visitor data

Volunteer Coordination

  • Assist in coordinating projects and special tasks for volunteers
  • Send regular communication to all volunteers
  • Organize volunteer files and compile timesheets on a biweekly basis
  • Develop strategies for volunteer recruitment, retention, and recognition

Desired skills and qualifications:

  • Passion for Outsider, Self-taught, Visionary, and Folk Art
  • Sincere interest in a career in the nonprofit/museum field
  • Previous experience in an arts-centered nonprofit/museum setting preferred
  • PC skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience using Quickbooks Point of Sale (POS) and Square sales processing systems helpful
  • Familiarity with eBay and PayPal helpful
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Creative thinker
  • Merchandising/marketing experience helpful
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • High level of professionalism
