Self-taught local artist Shirley Hudson will facilitate a hands-on D.I.Y. workshop resulting in a one-of-a-kind mixed media work to take home.

Bio:
For Shirley Hudson, painting became a way to fight back against the hardships of her life and focus on womanhood, eroticism, and personal crisis. She was inspired by the colors of nature and people's faces, leading her to create abstract and figurative paintings. Painting was, in her mind, an essential element of self-discovery along with the poetry that she writes and performs." After a 26-year hiatus, I purchased some canvases and painted for almost 48 hours without stopping. I haven't stopped since. Painting has always been my destiny." Her work started after meeting and seeing the artwork of a barmaid at the Hothouse in 1995 who shared similar life experiences.
